Each presenter will offer their unique perspective to explore the topic chosen for our summer school 2024 on “Communication in Relationships”. Communication is an important topic in all areas of life. There are many angles that can be chosen to explore and the presenters invite you to examine this from their specialised perspective.

The summer school will start with a special opening lecture in week one by Professor Alfred Pritz. Following on from this we are extremely pleased to then delve into an exciting series of lectures, workshops, group self-awareness and the opportunity to visit the Sigmund Freud University Out-Patient Clinic. This unique opportunity for participants offers foresight into the specialised study of Psychotherapy Science and its wide reaching endevors.

The Presenters of the 2024 Summer School

Univ.-Prof. Dr.Dr.hcmult. Alfred Pritz

Alfred Pritz, born on October 31, 1952 in St. Lorenzen near Scheifling, is an Austrian psychoanalyst, publicist and editor. He is the founding rector of the Sigmund Freud Private University in Vienna and President of the World Council for Psychotherapy.

After studying psychology, psychopathology and education in Salzburg, Prof. Pritz completed numerous therapeutic training courses, including approaches based on Carl Rogers, Gestalt therapy, hypnosis and psychoanalysis in Vienna. He has worked as a psychotherapist since 1977, specializing in therapies for older people, neuroses and personality disorders. He was committed to health insurance-financed therapy for older people and promoted brief therapies in groups.

 Since 1978, Prof. Pritz has been active in teaching assignments at home and abroad, including in Ukraine, Albania, South Africa and China. In 1980 he had a research stay at the Albert Einstein Hospital in New York. From 1991, he worked as a teaching analyst in Vienna. As deputy chairman of the umbrella organization of Austrian psychotherapeutic associations, he made a significant contribution to the creation of the Austrian Psychotherapy Act. He was president of the Austrian Psychotherapy Association and the World Association and organized several world congresses for psychotherapy.In 2005, he and three colleagues founded the Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna, the first university for psychotherapy sciences worldwide. As an editor, Prof. Pritz has contributed to numerous anthologies, including the “Dictionary of Psychotherapy” and the “Personality Dictionary of Psychotherapy”.


Ass.-Prof. Dr. Erzsébet Fanni Tóth, MA

Ass.-Prof. Dr. Erzsébet Fanni Tóth, MA is Vice Dean International Affairs, Director of the Institute for Transgenerational Trauma Transfer Research, and Lecturer in research methods and university didactics in the International Programme at Sigmund Freud University Vienna. Tóth studied psychology and cultural anthropology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, sociology and socio-cultural anthropology at the Central European University and holds a PhD in psychotherapy science from SFU. She is an expert in the interdisciplinary application of qualitative research methods with a focus on migration, trauma, identity and gender. Within the framework of international research projects, she is active in the field of cultural and minority research: She researches the memory of the Jewish and Hungarian minorities in Central Europe, the identity changes of Japanese lifestyle migrants.

Focus of teaching: Qualitative research methods, university didactics, scientific research projects, culture and psychotherapy


Dr. Gerda Mehta

Studied psychology and psychopathology in Salzburg and Memphis Tennesse. Worked as a clinical and health psychologist in the Office for Youth and Family in Vienna for almost 40 years. Various psychotherapeutic training, teaching therapist at the ÖAS, systemic family therapy, supervision, mediation.

Lecturer at SFU since the beginning, ARGE educational management and psychotherapy advisory board member since 1996, teaching in various countries. To help people, to be able to help people get along with each other – with the attitude of the social deconstructionist.


Dr.scient.pth. Harald Erik Tichy

Harald Erik Tichy studied education and comparative religions at the University of Vienna and Buddhism in the tradition of Ajahn Buddhadāsa in Wat Suan Mokkh, Thailand. In practicing and teaching Insight Dialogue he got guided by its founder, Gregory Kramer. He received a doctoral degree in psychotherapy science at the SFU, Vienna for his dissertation about Carl Rogers’ experience of presence, researching correspondences in the deep structure of person-centered psychotherapy and early Buddhist meditation theory.

He is a person-centered psychotherapist, a Buddhist meditation teacher, a MBSR- and MBCT-teacher, a Yoga teacher, an Insight Dialogue Facilitator, a psychotherapy scientist, specialized in the dialogue between psychotherapy and early Buddhism, and a lecturer for person-centered psychotherapy and mindfulness meditation at the SFU Vienna. There he also established a two-year course for mindfulness meditation. A focus of him is meditation in dialogue & dialogue in meditation in mind development, psychotherapy, and relationship culture.


Dr Ivana Dragic

Completed psychology and psychotherapy training in transactional analysis in Belgrade, Serbia, as well as numerous advanced training courses in the field of peace studies both in her homeland and abroad (including the USA and Canada). She has lived in Vienna since 2008, where she acquired the title of Doctor of Psychotherapy Science and also completed psychotherapy training in systemic family therapy, both at the SFU.

She is a member of the SFU’s Institute for Qualitative Psychotherapy Research and works as a lecturer in the SFU’s international psychotherapy program (in English), as well as as a systemic psychotherapist in private practice.


Imre Marton Remenyi PhD MA MAS MSc

Dr. Imre Marton Remenyi is internationally renowned as a leading psychotherapist, coach, trainer, and teacher at various universities. He is based in Vienna, where he is the CEO of both the “Vienna International Management School” which focuses on the development of top-level leadership personalities (www.viennamanagement.org) and the “Systemisches Institut Wien” where he and his students provide their clients with psychotherapy and coaching depending on their Individual needs. (www.remenyi.at). He frequently travels to international organizations for onsite team and organizational development.

Dr. Remenyi has authored books and articles. His main Interest lies in people and how they interact with themselves and others, how they manage change and how they try to find happiness in their lives.

His motto Is: One possibility is a one-way street. Two possibilities are a dilemma. Three possibilities mark the beginning of LIFE!

Dr. Remenyi works and teaches in six languages.


Mag. Inci Ardic

Mag.a lnci Ardic is a licensed psychotherapist and psychologist. After completing her psychology degree, she completed her master’s degree in psychotherapy at the Sigmund Freund University in Vienna. In addition, she took part in psychotherapy training at the IGW (Gestalt Institute Vienna). In addition to her private psychotherapy practice, she is part of the FernSüd Women’s Health Center Institute and leads numerous health projects with groups and individuals with a focus on people with a migration background. She has been a member of the teaching staff at SFU since 2016, where she continues her academic work.

As one of the 3rd force psychology’s blooming flowers, Gestalt therapy offers many methodological tools to work with. The phenomenological and existential foundations of its methodology and its humanistic understanding of the human condition makes Gestalt therapy unique.

Focusing on the topic ‘communication’, the workshop will introduce the Gestalt understanding of ‘contact’ and explain how Gestalt therapy understands Self and the importance of ‘contact’ in order to be a ‘self’. It will also talk about the Buberian I-thou relationship, the existential dialogue, and the meaning of Here & Now in Gestalt therapy, all of which will deepen your perspective on Communication from a Gestalt therapy perspective.


University – Doz. Dr. Gerald Gatterer

Clinical and health psychologist and psychotherapist, as well as academic hospital manager. He has been working in the Vienna Hospital Association since 1981 and currently holds the position of “Staff Unit for Network Management for Psychosocial Rehabilitation at the Ybbs/Donau location”. He also works in private practice. He teaches clinical psychology and health psychology, geriatric psychology/psychotherapy and behavioral therapy at various universities, clubs and courses and is a professor at the University of Nicosia. He is the author of numerous books and publications on these topics.

Focus of teaching: geriatric psychology, geriatric psychotherapy, behavioral therapy


Mag. pth. Ioana Anghel-Pirich

In the dynamic journey of family life, it’s natural for waves of conflict to arise, especially when navigating the intricate waters of adolescence. “Navigating Family Tides: Understanding Conflict with Teens ” invites you to embark on an insightful exploration of the challenges and triumphs that come with raising teenagers.

This workshop seeks to bridge the generation gap, providing a platform for open dialogue and understanding between parents and their teenagers. From the clash of perspectives to the ebb and flow of emotions, we’ll delve into the intricacies of adolescent development and the unique dynamics that shape family relationships during this transformative stage.

Ioana completed a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychotherapy Science. Ioana is the Director of the Learning Center and a Lecturer at Sigmund Freud University. Her current doctoral dissertation focuses on teenagers and their families.


Mag.a Katharina Scherfler

Mag.a Scherfler earned her Bakkalaureat and Magister degree in psychotherapy science at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna, Austria. She completed her psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytisches Seminar Innsbruck (PSI). Katharina Scherfler was licensed in Austria as a psychotherapist (psychoanalysis/psychoanalytic psychotherapy) in 2019. Since then she has completed further education in infant, children, and adolescent psychotherapy and several seminars on attachment. She works as a psychoanalyst in private practice in Vienna, Austria, and is currently working towards earning her doctorate degree, as well as an academic staff member at SFU since 2022.

The workshop will be looking into basic concepts and treatment techniques of psychoanalysis while focusing on “communication” and “relationships”.
