PTS | New Impetus in the Rectorate: Art Therapy Students Curate Exhibition Series

The Rectorate of SFU has recently unveiled a fresh new look enriched with artistic diversity. As part of a redesign of the premises, students from the programmes Clinical Art Therapy MA (CE) and Art Therapy MA were invited to submit their own works – with the aim of giving the Rectorate’s working environment a personal touch while also showcasing the university’s creative breadth.

Particularly exciting was the fact that the students curated their submissions themselves and were free to submit works relating to their chosen themes. The Rectorate then selected the final pieces without any information about the background, method of creation, or the artists themselves. This meant that the immediate impact of the artwork alone was placed at the forefront. During the handover of the selected pieces, attendees engaged in relaxed conversation and exchanged further thoughts about the creation and impact of the works.

The three-part series by Eszter Szabolcs (Programme Art Therapy MA, Group 10) bears the title “Process: Impulse · Flow · Balance” and is described as follows:

“The three images depict an inner path of development: from the powerful impulse, through the free flow, and finally towards gentle balance. Colour and movement make visible how energy transforms, expands, and ultimately leads into a state of equilibrium – or how inner feelings evolve into new forms. The series invites viewers to sense this process and to recognise their own inner resonances within it.”

In the long term, the project is intended to develop into a touring exhibition in which the displayed works change each year. This will create a dynamic format that continually offers students new opportunities to showcase their work – while giving the Rectorate a different artistic accent every year.
