Psychodrama at SFU

“To fathom the truth of the soul through action.” This was the aim of Jacob Levy Moreno, who developed psychodrama in Vienna from impromptu theatre before moving to the USA in 1925, where he developed the method together with the newly emerging group psychotherapy.

Psychodrama is an understanding and interactive method that is currently used in individual, couple and group settings. The concept of encounter and trust in the healing effect of play and an action-oriented approach to relationship constellations are at the centre of the process. Spontaneity and creativity are specifically addressed and encouraged.

Psychodramatic play and the sociometric processing of social relationships enable self-determined confrontation with personal challenges, conflicts and solution strategies. With the help of psychodramatic methods (e.g. impromptu, group and protagonist play) and sociometric methods (e.g. constellation and processing of relationships), resources can be activated, personal behaviour in social relationships can be explored and the existing role repertoire can be expanded.

Registrations for the interviews can be made from 1 March 2026.

2. A full-day admission seminar at SFU Vienna – with teaching therapists specialising in Psychodrama – on Monday, 29.06.2026 von 09:00 a.m. – 17:30 p.m. (in person at SFU Vienna). After successfully completing the two admission interviews, you will be registered for the admission seminar (see Method Admission Seminars for the respective winter semester).

3. We expressly point out that for a desired start of training in September 2026, a psychotherapeutic propaedeutic certificate must be available by 31 August 2026.

Admission fee: € 550
This includes the processing of the documents, two interviews, participation in a seminar (or three interviews), information meetings, crediting procedure, etc.
